Teaching

As the Associate Professor of Physics at MidAmerica Nazarene University, I teach a number of courses offered in the department of science and mathematics as well as a course in the school of health sciences. I have been in my current position for 4 years, teaching 12+ hours a semester to traditional undergraduate students. Additionally, I have fulfilled part-time teaching assignments at the University of Kansas.
General Physics I & II

Ever since the Principia Mathematica was written by Isaac Newton, "Newtonian Mechanics" has provided for us a simple, clear means of understanding our universe. MidAmerica currently offers two semesters of General Physics which covers this subject. These classes are offered in a trigonometric based option as well as a calculus based option. Both include a weekly laboratory session and are taught as a "flipped classroom".

Modern Physics

The physics of the 20th and 21st century has vastly changed the way humankind views the universe around us. MidAmerica's course on Modern Physics covers concepts including: Relativity, Quantum Mechanics, Elementary Particles, and Cosmology. The course focuses primarily on the conceptual aspects of these topics, and is recommended for science and non-science majors alike.

Quantum Mechanics

Quantum Mechanics is the application of wave mechanics to the realm of elementary particles. This field began in the 1920s and is now an important part of modern physics and chemistry. MidAmerica currently offers one semester of Quantum Mechanics.

Karate I - IV

MidAmerica currently offers four semesters of Karate. During these classes we cover the basics and advanced aspects of Hawaiian Kenpo Karate from white belt to black belt. Hawaiian Kenpo Karate is a martial arts system with roots in Okinawan Kenpo Karate that focuses on protecting yourself and others through the use of self defense sets.

Computational Programming

Computers speak a language all their own. There are many different programming languages which help us communicate our wishes to the computers. MidAmerica offers a course in basic computational programming in the language of C++. This one semester class focuses on the mathematical and scientific aspects of computer programming.

Physics in
Everyday Life

Physics is the application of logic and mathematics to the universe around us. It has been used for hundres of years to describe our world and help us come to a better understanding of our surroundings. Physics in Everyday Life is a course on the conceptual aspects of physics which apply to every citizen of Earth. This course is designed for non-science majors.
